The Bermagui region (including nearby Narooma) is an offshore game fishing mecca made famous Zane Grey's gamefishing exploits during the 1930's. The big attractions being yellowfin tuna, marlin and other large game fish accessible because the continental shelf is very close to the mainland (11 nautical miles) off Bermagui. Estuaries, beaches, coastal rock platforms and inshore fishing options are also excellent throughout this region. |

Bermagui offers safe boat launching and good acess to the open sea. Narooma has good launch facilities as well, but the sand bar there canbe more difficult to cross. Narooma is preferred by some because itis closer to Montague Island - a hot location for yellowtail kingfish. The local estuaries such as Wallaga Lake offer good light tackle flyfishing throughout the year. Fishing starts to get really good around mid-November, with December to May being best months for marlin. Late summer to end of winter is prime season for yellowfin tuna. Many species can be found throughout the year. |

There are very many charter operations in the area who focus onconventional tackle techniques. Some will cater for flyfishingcharters - however, expectations need to be made clear, and allspecialist tackle needs pre-arranged.
