"Mooloolaba" is an Aborigional word for "place of the snapper". But the real drawcard is the excellent offshore game fishing. This location also offers good inshore fishing, as well as good beach fishing, and estuary fishing in the Moolooaba River and nearby Maroochy River. |

The recognized billfish grounds are relatively close to the harbour ranging from about 12km offshore and out wider to the famous "18-mile" grounds. Baitfish schools inside the Barwon Banks attract Sailfish and Black Marlin throughout most of the year. |
