Jervis Bay is a beautiful expansive bay protected by the spectacular Beacroft Peninsula on the north side and the Murrays Beach Headland of the Jervis Bay National Park to the south.

The protected beeches inside Jervis are truly stunning, although fishing is somewhat limited.  The estuaries have flathead and the rocky shorelines produce bream and luderick.

Offshore the Continental Shelf beckons. When the current are right nutrient rich water delivers rare visitors such as Sunfish, but of more interest are the Marlin, Tuna and even the occasional Blue Shark.  Location-wise the big attraction is the Sir Josef Young Banks, about 4km north east of Beecroft Head.  From October to May this area produces a lot of fish including snapper and yellowtail kingfish.  Wide of the Banks is prime territoty for marlin and tuna.

To the south of Jervis Bay, St Gearges Basin which is closed to commercial fishing is an estuary fishing hotspot with plenty of shore based fly-fishing available.

Out on the Jervis Bay ledges with deap water in close its a whole different story - anything is possible - Beecroft Peninsula is the home of land based marlin fishing. All kinds of game fish are possible targets from these ledges, and as a result they get crowded in peak season.

The southern side has good land based spots as well - access here is through the Jervis Bay National park.

Inshore boats have easy access to the same water fished by the LBG brigade, but should keep a reasonable distance off and respect the effort that the LBG folk have to go to in order to climb down the toweing sandstone cliffs to reach the prime positions.

Boats should definitely keep as far away as possible when a good run of fish fish are being caught and fought from the ledges - go chase bird activity somewhere away from the ledges - there are more fish out there in any case.

Mid-way across the entrance to Jervis Bay there is a very productive reef called Middle Ground.

Boats can be launched at Murrays Beach, Hyams Beach, Vincentia, Plantation Point; Huskisson, Callala Bay, and on the north side of Beecroft Peninsula at Currarong.

Jervis Bay has been declared a Marine National Park, and parts are a Marine Reserve.  Be sure to check the zones and obey the rules.

All the towns around Jervis Bay offer a range of holiday accommodation.
