Batemans Bay really is a sport fisherman's Mecca. It offers all kinds of good fishing within reasonable travel distance from Sydney and Canberra.
Estuaries, land based, inshore and offshore fishing is excellent with a variety of good fishing all year round, however game fish are more prevalent from mid-summer through to early winter.

Offshore, the edge of the continental shelf is accessible for the boat owner, so marlin, yellowfin tuna, shark and other game fish are within relatively close range. Good game fishing grounds are east of the Tollgate Islands, about 6km south east of Snapper Island at the entrance to Batemans Bay.

There are a few charter operations in the area who focus on conventional tackle techniques. Some will cater for fly fishing charters - however, expectations need to be made clear, and all specialist tackle needs pre-arranged.
Batemans Bay is one of the fastest growing tourist centres on the South Coast and caters well for the vistor, including upmarket resturants and all kinds of accommodation.
