Shark Mackerel grammatorcynus bicarinatus

Aggressive and fast, shark mackerel chase down baitfish and maraud bait schools in the same manner as their larger cousins the Spaniards.

They are a speedy pelagic predator and are lightning fast, however they don't have great stamina but make up for that with the impressive take and initial burst of speed.

 

Distribution: Northern and North-Western waters of Australia. Size: 2 - 12kg

They have amazing colouring and markings.

 


 
Tackle and methods for Shark Mackerel

What tackle to use
9 - 10 wt outfits are ideal, these fish have razor sharp teeth so it's advised to use wire trace

What flies to use
Deceiver; Flashy Profile; Popper; Crease fly; Gurgler; Thing; Clousers.

Fishing strategy
Sinking lines fished around inshore reefs or headlands. Find a bait school being harassed by mackerel, cast alongside and let the fly sink down and strip like all hell.
